Am I Cheap or Frugal?

Since high school I’ve been a diligent saver.

Like a squirrel socking away her acorns for a brutal Canadian winter, I stash my hard earned dollars in case of emergency!

I didn’t want to do it.

The car was in great shape for her age (my car was a lady) and she was a smooth ride.

Although my car had been very well maintained she was pushing 300,000km and the dash board was lit up like a Christmas tree…time to sell.

Another motivating factor, I recently had a baby. I need something a bit bigger to accommodate all of baby’s things! Continue reading “Why I Will Never Buy a New Car”

The things that aren’t so lovable about the holiday…the inevitable tummy ache from over eating, a likely hang over from one too many drinks and a frighting credit card bill that will arrive in January just in time to intensify the post-holiday blues.

The Benefits of Having a Job in High School

When I was 12 years old I landed my first job while in high school… babysitting.

I know, babysitting isn’t for everyone but I really liked it. I was my own boss, I was able to hand pick my clients (families) and after the kids went to bed I got to stay up, watch cable t.v. (I didn’t have cable at home and Netflix didn’t exist yet) and eat junk food.

By grade nine I had at least 10 families in my community vying for my time on a Friday or Saturday night. I’m not going to lie, the babysitting gig wasn’t great for my social life, but I was willing to sacrifice a night with my friends for a handful of cash.
